493 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu Maʿmar informed us, from Sufyan, who said:

Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon him, said, “I teach you only that you may act, not that you may sit back in self-admiration. O salt of the earth, do not allow yourselves to spoil, for when something goes bad it is salt that restores it, but if the salt itself spoils, nothing can restore it. And take from those you instruct no recompense other than what I have taken from you.”
