492 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Razzaq narrated to us; Maʿmar informed us, from Jaʿfar al-Khuri, that Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon him, used to say:

“O Allah, this morning I cannot fend off what I dislike, nor do I control the benefit I hope for. The affair is in the hand of another, and I have awakened mortgaged to my own deeds, so none is poorer than I. Do not let my enemy gloat over me, nor my friend be pained because of me. Do not make my calamity in my religion, and do not give power over me to one who will show me no mercy.”
