488 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Abu al-Mughīrah narrated to us; Safwan related; he said: Shurayḥ ibn ʿUbayd told me, from Yazīd ibn Maysarah—also known as Ibn Ḥalbas—who said:
“The disciples said, ‘O Messiah of Allah, look at the House of Allah; how beautiful it is!’
He replied, ‘Amen, amen. In truth I tell you: Allah will not leave a single stone of this mosque resting upon another; He will bring it down because of the sins of its people. Allah has no need of gold, silver, or these stones. What is dearer to Allah than all of this are righteous hearts. Through such hearts Allah cultivates the earth, and through them He lays it waste when they turn away from righteousness.’”
٤٨٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا أبِي، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي شُرَيْحُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ حَلْبَسٍ قَالَ: " قَالَ الْحَوَارِيُّونَ: يَا مَسِيحَ اللَّهِ، انْظُرْ إِلَى بَيْتِ اللَّهِ، مَا أَحْسَنَهُ قَالَ: آمِينَ آمِينَ بِحَقٍّ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ: لَا يَتْرُكُ اللَّهُ مِنْ هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ حَجَرًا قَائِمًا عَلَى حَجَرٍ إِلَّا أَهْلَكَهُ بِذُنُوبِ أَهْلِهِ؛ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَصْنَعُ بِالذَّهَبِ وَلَا بِالْفِضَةِ وَلَا بِهَذِهِ الْحِجَارَةِ شَيْئًا، إِنَّ أَحَبَّ إِلَى اللَّهِ مِنْهَا الْقُلُوبُ الصَّالِحَةُ، بِهَا يَعْمُرُ اللَّهُ الْأَرْضَ، وَبِهَا يُخْرِبُ الْأَرْضَ إِذَا كَانَتْ عَلَى غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ "
