Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

449 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Wakīʿ narrated to us; Misʿar narrated to us, from Zayd al-ʿAmmī, from Abū al-Ṣiddīq al-Nājī, who said:

“Solomon, son of David—peace be upon him—once set out with the people to pray for rain. Along the way he came upon an ant lying on its back, its legs lifted toward the sky, saying: ‘O Allah, I am one of Your creatures; we cannot do without the provision You bestow. So either grant us rain or bring about our end.’ Solomon thereupon said to the people, ‘Turn back, for you have been given rain by the supplication of someone other than yourselves.’”
