ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Salit ibn Masʿud al-Jahdari narrated to me; Jaʿfar ibn Sulayman narrated to us; Abu ʿImran al-Jawni reported: “When Moses—peace be upon him—exhorted his people, a man among them tore his shirt. It was then said to Moses, ‘Tell the man who tore his shirt not to rip his garment, but rather to lay bare his heart before Me.’”
