ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us; Salih al-Murri informed us; Abu ʿImran al-Jawni reported, on the authority of Abu al-Jald, who said:
“Allah revealed to Moses—peace be upon him: ‘O Moses, when you call upon Me, let your tongue follow behind your heart. Remember Me with humility and calm assurance. When you stand before Me, stand as one who is small and abased. Censure your own soul, for it is most deserving of blame. And when you confide in Me, do so with a trembling heart and a truthful tongue.’”
