Hadith 432: ʿAbd Allah narrated to us and said, “I recited this before my father.” ʾIbrāhīm ibn ʿAqīl ibn Maʿqil ibn Munabbih said: My father related to me, on the authority of Wahb ibn Munabbih, that Allah—glorified is He—granted Moses (peace be upon him) a nūr (radiant light). Aaron said, “My brother, give it to me,” so Moses bestowed it upon him. Aaron then passed it on to his two sons. In Bayt al-Maqdis (the Holy Sanctuary in Jerusalem) there were vessels which the prophets and the kings after them held in great reverence, yet the two sons began to pour wine into those very vessels. A fire descended from heaven, snatched Aaron’s two sons, and carried them upward. Alarmed, Aaron stood in distress, turning toward heaven with earnest supplication and humble entreaty. Allah revealed to him: “Such is how I deal with one of My obedient servants who defies Me—so what do you suppose I will do to those who defy Me while belonging to the people of outright disobedience?”
