Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

Mujāhid said: ʿAbd Allāh once told me, “O Mujāhid, when you find yourself in the morning, do not assume you will live until evening, and when you find yourself in the evening, do not assume you will reach the morning. Draw upon your life before death overtakes you, and upon your health before sickness befalls you—for indeed, O ʿAbd Allāh, you do not know what name you will bear tomorrow.”
