Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbdullāh narrated to us—my father narrated to me—ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us—Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us—from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib; he said: I heard Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Jadalī say: Allah, exalted be He, revealed to David (peace be upon him): “O David, love Me, love those who love Me, and make Me beloved to My servants.” He said, “My Lord, I do love You, and I love those who love You; but how shall I make You beloved to Your servants?” He replied, “Remember Me, and speak of Me only in a good manner.”
