- ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Ibrāhīm ibn Khālid narrated to us; ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān informed me, saying: I heard Wahb ibn Munabbih say, “David—peace be upon him—said: ‘My Lord, I cannot endure the heat of Your sun; how then could I bear the heat of Your Fire? My Lord, I have no patience for the sound of Your mercy—meaning the thunder—so how could I withstand the sound of Your punishment?’”
٣٦٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي أبِي، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ وَهْبَ بْنَ مُنَبِّهٍ يَقُولُ: " قَالَ دَاوُدُ ﷺ: رَبِّ، لَا صَبْرَ لِي عَلَى حَرِّ شَمْسِكَ، فَكَيْفَ صَبْرِي عَلَى حَرِّ نَارِكَ؟ رَبِّ، لَا صَبْرَ لِي عَلَى صَوْتِ رَحْمَتِكَ، يَعْنِي الرَّعْدَ، فَكَيْفَ صَبْرِي عَلَى صَوْتِ عَذَابِكَ؟ "
