- ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; Hudbah ibn Khālid narrated to us; Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, from ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr, who said:
A garden sprang up around David—peace be upon him—watered by his very tears. Then Allah, exalted is He, revealed to him: “O David, would you like Me to enlarge your kingdom and your line?” He answered, “My Lord, what I desire is that You forgive me.”
٣٦٦ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ أَنَّ دَاوُدَ (عليه السلام) نَبَتَ حَوْلَهُ رَوْضَةٌ مِنْ دُمُوعِهِ، فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ – Exalté soit-Il – إِلَيْهِ: «يَا دَاوُدُ، تُرِيدُ أَنْ أَزِيدَكَ فِي مُلْكِكَ وَوَلَدِكَ؟» قَالَ ": أَيْ رَبِّ، أُرِيدُ أَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِي "
