(No. 354) ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us—my father informed me—Wakīʿ narrated to us—Sufyān narrated to us—from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Marwān, from his father, from Kaʿb, who said:

Moses, peace be upon him, said: “My Lord, are You near so that I may whisper to You, or far so that I must call out to You?” He replied: “O Moses, I am the companion of anyone who remembers Me.” Moses continued: “My Lord, there are situations in which, out of reverence and veneration for You, we refrain from mentioning You.” He asked: “And what are those?” Moses answered: “A state of major ritual impurity and when relieving oneself.” He said: “O Moses, remember Me in every condition.”
