(No. 344) ʿAbd Allāh related to us—my father related to us; Ibn Atish narrated to me; Mundhir informed us—on the authority of Wahb ibn Munabbih, that Moses asked his Lord, exalted is He: “My Lord, what do You command me to do?” He replied, “That you do not associate anything with Me.” Moses said, “And what else?” He said, “Show dutifulness to your mother.” Moses asked, “And what else?” He replied, “Show dutifulness to your mother.” Moses asked again, “And what else?” He said, “Show dutifulness to your mother.”

Wahb went on to say: “Being dutiful to one’s father increases one’s lifespan, while being dutiful to one’s mother secures the appointed term.”
