Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Hāshim narrated to us; Ṣāliḥ informed us, from Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī, from Abū al-Jald, that Jesus son of Mary—peace be upon him—counselled the disciples:

“Do not engage in lengthy speech bereft of the remembrance of Allah, for that will cause your hearts to harden; and a hardened heart is far from Allah, though its owner may be unaware. Do not gaze upon the sins of others as though you were masters; rather, examine your own sins as though you were servants. Humanity is of two kinds: one who is spared and one who is tested. Have mercy on those who are being tried in their affliction, and thank Allah for the well-being you enjoy.”
