- ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us—my father narrated to us—Sayyār narrated to us—Jaʿfar Abū Ghālib narrated to us. He said: We have been informed that these words are found in the counsel of Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon him:
“O assembly of disciples, strive to win Allah’s love by detesting the people of sin; draw close to Him by loathing them, and seek His good pleasure through their displeasure.”
They asked, “O Prophet of Allah, then with whom should we keep company?”
He replied, “Keep company with those whose words increase your righteous deeds, whose mere presence reminds you of Allah, and whose actions make you less attached to this world.”
٢٩٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا أبِي، حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ، حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرٌ أَبُو غَالِبٍ قَالَ: بَلَغَنَا أَنَّ هَذَا الْكَلَامَ فِي وَصِيَّةِ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ (عليه السلام): «يَا مَعْشَرَ الْحَوَارِيِّينَ، تَحَبَّبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ – Exalté soit-Il – بِبُغْضِ أَهْلِ الْمَعَاصِي، وَتَقَرَّبُوا إِلَيْهِ بِالْمَقْتِ لَهُمْ، وَالْتَمِسُوا رِضَاهُ بِسَخَطِهِمْ» قَالُوا: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، فَمَنْ نُجَالِسُ؟ " قَالَ: «جَالِسُوا مَنْ يَزِيدُ فِي أَعْمَالِكُمْ مَنْطِقُهُ، وَمَنْ تُذَكِّرُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ رُؤْيَتُهُ، وَيُزَهِّدُكُمْ فِي دُنْيَاكُمْ عَمَلُهُ»
