Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us—my father narrated to me—Hāshim narrated to us—Abū Jaʿfar narrated—from al-Rabīʿ ibn Anas, who said:

Allah, Exalted is He, revealed to one of the prophets (upon him be peace):

“What is the matter with your people? They dress in sheepskins and imitate monks; their words are sweeter than honey, yet their hearts are more bitter than aloes. Are they deluded about Me, or do they think they can deceive Me? By My might, I shall leave even the learned among them bewildered. Whoever practices soothsaying or has it practiced for him, or practices sorcery or has sorcery done for him, is not of Me. Whoever believes in Me, let him place his trust in Me; and whoever does not believe in Me, let him go and follow someone else.”
