- ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us—my father narrated to us—Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us—al-Aʿmash narrated to us—on the authority of Mujāhid, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmayr, who said:
“Whenever a man from the people of Noah (peace be upon him) crossed his path, he would seize him by the throat until Noah fell unconscious. Yet when he regained consciousness he would say, ‘My Lord, forgive my people, for they do not know.’”
