- ʿAbd Allāh related to us; my father related to us; Yūnus related to us; Shaybān related to us, from Qatādah; al-Ḥasan related to us, from Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, who said that the Prophet ﷺ stated:
“Adam—peace be upon him—was a tall man, as though he were a lofty date-palm. His head was covered with abundant hair. When he committed the deed he committed, his private parts became exposed, something he had never seen before. He took to flight, and one of the trees of Paradise caught hold of his head. He said to it, ‘Let me go!’ The tree replied, ‘I will not release you.’ Then his Lord—Majestic is He—called out to him: ‘Are you running away from Me?’ He answered, ‘No, my Lord; I am ashamed before You.’ Whereupon his Lord said to him: ‘Likewise, the believer feels shame before his Lord—Majestic is He—when he falls into a sin. Yet, by Allah’s grace, he knows where the escape lies: he knows that the escape is in seeking forgiveness and turning in repentance to Allah—Exalted is He.’”
