- ʿAbdullāh narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to us; ʿAffān narrated to us; Thābit narrated to us; Hilāl ibn Khabbāb narrated to us, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—looked toward Mount Uhud and said: “By Him in Whose hand Muhammad’s soul rests, it would not please me that Mount Uhud be turned into gold for the family of Muhammad, and that I then spend it in the path of Allah, only to die leaving two dinars behind—save two dinars I would set aside to settle a debt, if I owed one.” He added: The Prophet passed away without leaving a single dinar or dirham, nor any male or female slave; he left only his coat of mail, which was held in pledge with a Jew for thirty sāʿs of barley.
