- ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us. Wakīʿ said: Misʿar related to us, from a shaykh whom he did not name, who said: “I heard Jābir and Ibn ʿUmar saying: One of them remarked, ‘In the speech of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—there was a measured, deliberate cadence.’ The other then said, ‘No man ever rises to give a sermon for the sake of ostentation except that he remains under Allah’s wrath until he falls silent.’”
