- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Husayn narrated to us; Faraj narrated to us, from Asad ibn Wadaʿah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, “Which of the believers is the best?” He replied, “A believer whose heart is anxious (out of piety), harboring no rancor and no envy.” They said, “O Prophet of Allah, we do not find such a person among us. After him, which of the believers is the best?” He said, “The believer who is detached from this world and yearns for the Hereafter.” They said, “O Prophet of Allah, we do not see that among us, except perhaps in Rafiʿ ibn Khadij. After him, which of the believers is the best?” He said, “A believer of noble character.”
٢٣٥١ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ، حَدَّثَنَا فَرَجٌ، عَنْ أَسَدِ بْنِ وَدَاعَةَ قَالَ: سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أيُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: «مُؤْمِنٌ مَغْمُومُ الْقَلْبِ لَيْسَ فِيهِ غِلٌّ وَلَا حَسَدٌ» قَالُوا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ لَا نَعْرِفُ ذَلِكَ فِينَا فَأَيُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بَعْدَ هَذَا أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: «الْمُؤْمِنُ الزَّاهِدُ فِي الدُّنْيَا الرَّاغِبُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ» قَالُوا: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ لَا نَعْرِفُ ذَلِكَ فِينَا إِلَّا مَا كَانَ مِنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ فَأَيُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بَعْدَ هَذَا أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: «مُؤْمِنٌ حَسَنُ الْخُلُقِ»
