Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from al-Fudayl ibn Sulayman, from Muhammad ibn Mutarrif, from Abu Hazim, from ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab, who said:

I came in to see the Prophet of Allah ﷺ while he was racked with fever. I laid my hand upon his garment and felt its heat through the cloth. I said, “O Prophet of Allah, I have never seen anyone whom fever seizes more fiercely than it does you.” He replied, “That is why our reward is multiplied. The people most severely tried are the prophets, then the righteous after them. There was even a prophet who was tested with poverty until, out of destitution, he wrapped himself ⦗322⦘ in a coarse cloak; and there was one upon whom lice were let loose until they caused his death.”
