Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Husayn narrated to us; Ibn Sulayman al-Numayri narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Mutarrif, from Abu Hazim, from Saʿid ibn al-Musayyab, who said:

Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard the rumble of thunder in the sky, the concern showed on his face, and he would remain uneasy until rain began to fall and the anxiety was relieved. People asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is this that we observe on your face?” He replied, “I do not know whether I have been commanded with mercy or with punishment.”
