2292 – ʿAbd Allah related to us; Abu Maʿmar related to me; Jarir related to us, from Ashʿath—or from Yaʿqub, or from both of them—from Jaʿfar, meaning Ibn Abi Wahshiyya, on the authority of Saʿid ibn Jubayr, who said:
“A severe drought struck during the reign of one of the kings—namely, a king from the Children of Israel. The people went out to seek rain. The king then said, ‘If He does not send us rain, I will anger Him.’ They asked, ‘How will you anger Him? What will you do to provoke Him?’ He replied, ‘I will kill His friends.’ Thereupon rain was sent down.”
