2278 – ʿAbd Allah related to us; my father related to me; Yazid ibn Harun related to us; Hariz ibn ʿUthman informed us; Sulayman ibn Sumayr related to us. He said: I heard Kathir ibn Murrah say, “Do not speak wisdom in the presence of fools, for they will brand you a liar; nor utter falsehood before the wise, for they will detest you. Do not withhold knowledge from those who deserve it, or you will incur sin; yet do not impart it to those unworthy of it, or you will be deemed ignorant. Indeed, your knowledge places a due right upon you just as your wealth places a due right upon you.”
