2258 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Shayban narrated to me; Sallam narrated to us; ʿImran ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated to us. He said: “Saʿid ibn al-Musayyib was summoned to al-Walid ibn Sulayman after ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwan, but he declared, ‘I will never pledge allegiance to two men for as long as night and day alternate.’ It was said to him, ‘Enter by one gate and leave through the other.’ He replied, ‘By Allah, I will not let anyone make me a precedent in this.’ So they flogged him one hundred lashes and dressed him in coarse sackcloth.”
٢٢٥٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي شَيْبَانُ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَّامٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: دُعِيَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ لِلْوَلِيدِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بَعْدَ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ فَقَالَ لَا أُبَايِعُ اثْنَيْنِ مَا اخْتَلَفَ اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ قَالَ: قِيلَ: ادْخُلْ مِنْ بَابٍ وَاخْرُجْ مِنَ الْبَابِ الْآخَرِ قَالَ: " وَاللَّهِ لَا يَقْتَدِي بِي أَحَدٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَالَ: فَجَلَدُوهُ مِائَةً وَأَلْبَسُوهُ الْمُسُوحَ "
