Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

2227 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; al-Aswad narrated to us; from Abu Nawfal, who said: ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr said, “If you are miserly with your wealth and refuse to spend it, and you shrink from the enemy and will not fight him, and the night looms too long for you to keep vigil through it, then recite abundantly: subḥān Allāh wa bi-ḥamdihi (Glory be to Allah and with His praise). By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, this is more esteemed by Allah than two mountains of gold and silver.”
