2184 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Ibrahim ibn Khalid narrated to us; Umayyah ibn Shibl narrated to me, from ʿUthman ibn Mardawayh, who said:
“I was with Wahb ibn Munabbih and Saʿid ibn Jubayr on the Day of ʿArafah at Mount Ibn ʿAmir. Wahb said to Saʿid ibn Jubayr, ‘Abu ʿAbd Allah, how long has it been since you began to fear al-Hajjaj?’ He replied, ‘I left my wife while she was pregnant, and the child who was in her womb has now come to me with his face already showing.’ Wahb then said to him, ‘Indeed, the people before you, whenever hardship struck one of them, would regard it as ease, and whenever ease befell him, he would see it as a trial.’”
