2183 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Sufyan ibn Wakiʿ narrated to me; Abu Bakr ibn ʿAyyash narrated to us, from Ibn Wahb, from his father:
“In the Torah it is written that among the manifestations of kibr (arrogance) are the following: a man calls his brother but he does not answer; he swears by his life yet fails to honor his oath; and he brings him food and the other says, ‘It is not good.’ Whoever praises Allah—exalted is He—for any food has indeed discharged its gratitude.”
