Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

2153 – ʿAbdullah narrated to us; Ibrahim ibn al-Hasan al-Bahili, the reciter, narrated to me; some of the scholars of hadith narrated to me, from Hammad ibn Zayd, who said: “I entered upon Salam Abū al-Mundhir while he was in the throes of death. They were prompting him (to utter the testimony of faith), but he was slow to respond, and that distressed me. Then a mu’adhdhin (caller to prayer) proclaimed the adhān from the minaret of the congregational mosque, saying, ‘I bear witness that there is no god but Allah.’ Salam thereupon declared, ‘I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, the One by whose will alone anything occurs in heaven and on earth,’ and then he passed away—may Allah have mercy on him.”
