ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab narrated to us, from al-Awzāʿī, from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr, who said:
Solomon son of David—peace be upon him—said to his son: “My son, do not be excessively jealous over your household, lest they be slandered on your account even though they are innocent. My son, some kinds of modesty spring from weakness, while others reflect a dignified reverence for Allah, Exalted is He. My son, if you wish to vex your enemy, then never spare the rod from your child. My son, just as a wedge is driven between two stones, and just as a snake slips between two nests, so too does sin insinuate itself between the two parties to a sale.”
