[216] ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ayyūb narrated to us; Abū Bakr—meaning Ibn ʿAyyāsh—narrated, from Idrīs ibn Wahb ibn Munabbih, who related from his father:
“Solomon son of David, peace be upon him, possessed a thousand dwellings: their upper chambers were made of glass, while their lower parts were of iron. One day he mounted the wind, and as he passed by a ploughman, the man looked up and exclaimed, ‘The family of David has truly been granted a magnificent kingdom!’ The wind carried his words and cast them into Solomon’s ear. Solomon dismounted and came to the ploughman, saying, ‘I heard what you said, and I have walked over to you only so that you will not crave what you cannot attain. One single utterance of glorification that Allah accepts—Subḥāna llāh—is better than all that has been given to the house of David.’ The ploughman replied, ‘May Allah remove your worry as you have removed mine.’”
