[214] ʿAbd Allāh reported to us; my father reported to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī reported; Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah reported, from Ibn Abī Najīḥ, who said:
Solomon son of David—peace be upon him—said, “We were granted what people have been granted and what they have not been granted; we have learned what people know and what they do not know. Yet we have found nothing better than three precepts: forbearance in both anger and satisfaction, moderation in both poverty and wealth, and fear of God both in private and in public.”
