2089 – ʿAbdullah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Abu Muʿāwiyah narrated to us; al-Aʿmash, from Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, from his father, Yazīd b. Sharīk, that he purchased raqīq (slaves) in Basra for four thousand, and they built his house for him. He then sold them, making a profit of four thousand. I said to him, “Father, if you were to return to Basra and buy others like these, you would profit from them.” He replied, “My son, why do you say such a thing? By Allah, I felt no joy when I first obtained that gain, nor have I ever entertained the thought of going back to acquire its like again.”
