2070 – ʿAbdullāh narrated to us; he said: I was informed by Ibn al-Sammāk, who said: Dharr said to his father, ʿUmar ibn Dharr, “Why is it that when other speakers address the people no one weeps, but when you speak the sound of sobbing is heard here and there?” He replied, “My dear son, al-nāʾiḥah al-mustaʾjarah (the hired mourner) is not like al-nāʾiḥah al-thuklā (the truly bereaved mourner).”
