2059 – ʿAbd Allah related to us; Fudayl ibn ʿIyad informed us; on the authority of al-Aʿmash who said: ʿAmr ibn ʿUtbah ibn Farqad declared, “I asked Allah—Exalted is He—for three things. He has granted me two of them, and I am awaiting the third. I asked Him to detach me from the world, so I no longer mind whatever of it comes my way or passes me by. I asked Him to give me strength for the prayer, and He has bestowed that upon me. And I asked Him for martyrdom, and for that I still hope.”
