2052 – ʿAbd Allah related to us; my father related to us; al-Aswad ibn ʿAmir related to us; Abu Bakr informed us, from al-Aʿmash, who said:
Alqamah ibn Qays, ʿAmr ibn ʿUtbah, and Muʿḍad joined the force sent to Balanjar. ʿAmr ibn ʿUtbah bought a horse for four thousand (dirhams). People said to him, “You have paid far too much!” He replied, “I would not wish to have—even one dirham for every hoof it lifts and sets down—dirham upon dirham.”
