2050 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Husayn ibn ʿAli narrated to us, from al-Hasan ibn al-Hurr, from Maymun ibn Abi Shabib, who said:
“I once intended to attend the Friday prayer during the time of al-Hajjaj. I prepared myself to leave, then asked, ‘Where am I going—shall I really pray behind this man?’ One moment I said, ‘I will go,’ and the next, ‘I will not go.’ At last, I resolved to go. Then a caller from the direction of the house recited: ‘O you who believe! When the call is made for the prayer on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah’ (Surah al-Jumuʿah 9). So I went.
Another time, I was sitting, writing a letter. An issue presented itself: if I were to include it, my letter would look attractive but I would be lying; if I were to omit it, some blemish would remain in my letter, yet I would be truthful. One moment I said, ‘I will write it,’ and another, ‘I will not write it.’ ⦗285⦘ Finally, I decided to leave it out, and so I left it. Then a voice called to me from the direction of the house, reciting: ‘Allah makes firm those who believe with the firm word, in the life of this world and in the Hereafter’ (Surah Ibrahim 27).”
