2016 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Zakariyya ibn Yahya ibn Hammuyah in Wasit narrated to us; al-Haytham ibn ʿAdas narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr ibn Murrah narrated to us, from his father, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Salamah, who said: “We campaigned in Azerbaijan during the time of ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab, and Uways al-Qarani was with us. On the way back he—meaning, he fell ill among us—so we carried him, but he could not hold on and he died. We dismounted to find a grave already dug, water poured out, a shroud, and perfume. We washed him, shrouded him, prayed over him, and buried him. Then some of us said to the others, ‘If only we went back and marked his grave so that we could ask Allah to forgive him.’ We returned, but there was no grave and no trace of it whatsoever.”
