2000 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Wakiʿ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from his father, from Mundhir al-Thawri, from al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym, regarding the verse, “So if he is one of those brought near, then for him is rest and fragrant ease” (al-Waqiʿah 56:89). He said: “That is granted to him at the moment of death, while Paradise is kept in store for him in the Hereafter.
As for the words, “But if he is one of those who denied and went astray, then his welcome will be scalding water and burning in a blazing Fire” (al-Waqiʿah 56:92–94), he said: “This comes upon him at the moment of death, while the Fire is reserved for him in the Hereafter.”
