Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

1995 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Yahya ibn Saʿid narrated to us; Ibn Ḥayyan narrated to us; my father narrated to me, saying:

After one side of al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym’s body had become paralyzed, he would still be led, supported by two men, to the mosque of his community. The companions of ʿAbd Allah would say to him, “O Abū Yazīd, you have been given a concession—you could pray in your house.” He would reply, “What you say is true. Yet I have heard it proclaiming ḥayya ʿala al-falāḥ (Come to success). So whoever among you hears it proclaim ḥayya ʿala al-falāḥ should respond to it, even if he has to crawl, even if he has to drag himself on hands and knees.”
