1994 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to me; Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us; ʿIsa ibn ʿUmar informed us, from ʿAmr ibn Murrah, who said:
Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym came to the mother of his child and said, “Prepare some food for us and make it especially tasty, for I have a brother whom I love and I wish to invite him.” She therefore decorated her house, arranged the sitting area, cooked a meal, and seasoned it well. Then she said, “Call your brother.”
He went to Sulal, a neighbor of his who had lost his sight, brought him back, and seated him in the most honored place of the gathering. He then said, “Serve the food.” She replied, “I prepared this meal only for that (brother you spoke of).” He said, “Shame on you! I have told you the truth; this man is my brother, and I love him.” He then began taking from the choicest portions of the food and handing them to him.
