1988 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said, “Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to me; Khalid ibn Khidash narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Abi ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from Wassaq, the freedman of Abu ʿUyaynah, from Laqit:

A man came to al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym and said, ‘For the past three nights an apparition has been coming to me, saying: “Inform al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym that he is among the inhabitants of the Fire.” Each time I seek refuge in Allah and spit ⦗275⦘ to my left three times.’

He returned the next morning and said, ‘Last night the apparition came to me with a black dog; a chain was around its neck and three wounds were on its face.’ Al-Rabiʿ replied, ‘That is the one who has been whispering that vision to you about al-Rabiʿ.’
