1984 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said, “I read it aloud to my father.” Ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from his father, from Abu Yaʿla, from al-Rabiʿ, who said:
“I do not like it when a servant pleads with his Lord—exalted is He—saying, ‘My Lord, You have prescribed mercy for Yourself; You have obligated such-and-such upon Yourself,’ as though finding His response slow in coming. Yet I have never seen anyone say, ‘My Lord, I have discharged what is due from me, so fulfil what is due from You.’”
