1983 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; al-Nadr ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Malik al-Asbahani narrated to us, from someone who related it to him, from al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym, who said to his companions: “What is the illness? What is the medicine? What is the cure?” They replied, “We do not know.” He said, “The illness is sins; the medicine is istighfar (seeking forgiveness); and the cure is to repent and never revert.”
