Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

1981 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Ibrahim related to me; Ahmad ibn Yunus narrated to us; Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Saʿid ibn Masruq, from Mundhir, who said: al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym said:

“In the pre-Islamic period of ignorance (jahiliyya) people used to take their disputes to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for judgment; once Islam came, that authority was reserved for him alone. Letter by letter: ‘Whoever obeys the Messenger has indeed obeyed Allah.’” [al-Nisaʾ 80]
