- ʿAbd Allāh related to us—he said: my father related to me; Yazīd related to us; Hishām reported from al-Ḥasan, who said:
“By Allah, I met people who, had any one of them wished to take this money from its lawful source, he could have done so. They were told, ‘Will you not come and take your rightful share of this wealth—lawfully?’ Yet they would answer, ‘No. We fear that taking it might bring corruption to our hearts.’”
٢٠١ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي أبِي، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ: " وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ أَدْرَكْتُ أَقْوَامًا لَوْ شَاءَ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ هَذَا الْمَالَ مِنْ حِلِّهِ أَخَذَهُ، فَيُقَالُ لَهُمْ: أَلَا تَأْتُونَ نَصِيبَكُمْ مِنْ هَذَا الْمَالِ فَتَأْخُذُونَهُ حَلَالًا؟ فَيَقُولُونَ: لَا، إِنَّا نَخْشَى أَنْ يَكُونَ أَخْذُهُ فَسَادًا لِقُلُوبِنَا "
