1964 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Wakiʿ narrated to us; Sufyan narrated, from his father, from Mundhir al-Thawri, from al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym, that when death drew near he made the following bequest:

“This is what al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym affirms concerning himself, calling Allah—exalted is He—to witness over his own soul. Allah is sufficient as Witness, as the One who recompenses His righteous servants and grants reward. I am well-pleased with Allah as Lord, with Muhammad as Prophet, and with Islam as religion. I am likewise pleased—for myself and for whoever follows me—to worship Him among the worshippers, to praise Him among the grateful, and to offer sincere counsel to the community of Muslims.”
