1952 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Ibrahim related to me; ʿAbd Allah ibn Musa told us; al-Aʿmash informed us, on the authority of Mundhir, that al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym once said to his household, “Prepare some khabīs (a sweet porridge) for me.” He almost never asked them for any particular food, yet they prepared it. He then sent it to a neighbor of his who was gravely ill. The man began to eat, saliva dribbling as he did so. Al-Rabiʿ’s family remarked, “He does not even realize what he is eating!” Al-Rabiʿ replied, “Yet Allah—exalted is He—does know.”
