1935 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; al-Walid ibn Shujaʿ ibn al-Walid ibn Qays al-Sakuni narrated to me; Khalaf ibn Khalifah narrated to us, from Sayyar Abu al-Hakam, from Abu Waʾil, who also said:
We went to visit al-Rabiʿ ibn Khuthaym, and he asked, “What has brought you here?”
We replied, “We have come so that you may praise Allah and we may praise Him with you, and so that you may remember Allah and we may remember Him with you.”
He said, “Praise be to Allah who did not let you come to me saying, ‘We have come so that you may drink and we may drink with you, and so that you may commit fornication and we may commit fornication with you.’ ”
١٩٣٥ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ شُجَاعِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ السَّكُونِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ، عَنْ سَيَّارٍ أَبِي الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، قَالَ أَيْضًا: أَتَيْنَا الرَّبِيعَ بْنَ خُثَيْمٍ قَالَ: مَا جَاءَ بِكُمْ؟ قَالَ: قُلْنَا: جِئْنَا لِتَحْمَدَ اللَّهَ، وَنَحْمَدَهُ مَعَكَ، وَتَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ وَنَذْكُرَهُ مَعَكَ فَقَالَ: " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ تَأْتُونِي تَقُولُونَ: جِئْنَا لِتَشْرَبَ فَنَشْرَبَ مَعَكَ وتَزْنِيَ فَنَزْنِيَ مَعَكَ "
